What is Aspirin?Aspirin (or acetylsalicylic acid) is a synthetic drug that helps with pain and swelling. It originates from willow tree bark and was used by the greeks as a pain reliever. In 1853 a French chemist, Charles F. Gerhardt, synthesized a primitive form of aspirin from the salicylic acid extracted from willow bark. After 44 years a German chemist named Felix Hoffman decided to further synthesize the salicylic acid, creating what is now known as Aspirin. |
